At Least 11 Shot, 3 Killed On Another Violent Night In New York City – CBS New York

New York City (CBSNewYork)– A lethal night in New York City trickled into Friday early morning.

Cops state a minimum of 11 individuals were shot. 3 men died due to gun iolence.

CBS2’s John Dias reports on what cops union leaders are saying about it.

A baseball hat and used medical gloves remain in the center of one of New York City’s most current homicide scenes. Cops state that around 2 a.m., three men were shot at the corner of East 179th street and Clinton Opportunity in the Crotona area of the Bronx. A 60-year-old male died.

“An entire clip,” stated Catherine Ortiz. “Had to be 10-12 a minimum of, genuine loud.”

Two hours later on, and less than a mile away in Tremont, a 44-year-old male was likewise fatally shot in the back of the head on Park Opportunity.

Around 10 p.m. Thursday night in Downtown Brooklyn, cops state a 23-year-old male was fatally shot in his head on the corner of Fulton Street and Flatbush Opportunity.

Another shooting occurred about thirty minutes later on in the Hunts Point area, cops stated. Two men were shot on Gilbert Place and managed to bring themselves to the health center without first responders. It’s unclear what conditions they remained in.

“After this pandemic and crisis, individuals are going nuts. For nothing, they want to shoot individuals,” stated Crotona resident Leonard Josh.

According to the NYPD, a minimum of 11 individuals were shot in 6 hours throughout New York City. The current numbers reveal shootings are up 82% in the city compared to the exact same time in 2015. Weapon arrests are down 8%.

“Some of the violence is because of pandemic, courts not open,” a Crotona resident called Kevin told Dias.

Kevin stated he think bad seeds are trying to make use of a tough time for the city.

“Who does not condemn violence, except for individuals who is doing it,” he stated. “People desire peace, individuals desire equality and justice, however you have some other individuals who simply desire chaos, and any chaos that’s going on, they will take advantage of it.”

Friday, a “Stop The Violence” march was held by cops and cops unions to reveal support for local law enforcement. Leaders state specific cops reform is the reason for the spike in violence.

“The lawbreakers essentially understand, their hands are untied,” stated Vincent Vallelong, vice president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association. “They’re not scared of a law enforcement officer coming near them.”

The president of the Detectives Endowment Association states bail reform and city ordinances that avoids polices from sitting, standing or kneelingon a suspect’s stomach or back are the problems.

“What’s going on is that the government officials on the state and city level have enacted laws that have handcuffed the cops and the cops can refrain from doing their job,” stated Paul DiGiacomo, president of Detectives Endowment Association.

While those officers march, others are still investigating the overnight shootings, trying their hardest to catch the suspects.
